Tips on Removing Skunk Odor



Skunks belong to North and South American mammals that are known to release a spray when they are attacked. The odor of the spray is quite stinky, and it is a nightmare to get rid of it, be it your dog, your car or the victim can be you. The smell is undeniable and becomes stronger over the period. 

When the victim is a dog: If your dog has been sprayed by the skunk, the smell becomes undeniable then you need to adopt some remedy to get rid of it as soon as possible because the smell becomes stronger over the period. It can linger up for an indefinite period if not removed in time. Dogs are usually sprayed in the face so start from there so that the excessive amount of spray can be removed. Once its face has been cleansed, then go for the next remedy actions to be taken. You may use hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap mixture to apply to a dog's body.  Mix the ingredients in the proportion of one-quarter of three percent hydrogen peroxide (available at any pharmacy), a quarter cup of baking soda and one teaspoon liquid dishwashing soap. Then apply it to the place where the dog has been sprayed and make sure it doesn't affect the eyes.  While applying the mixture, wear rubber gloves to avoid your skin from getting affected by chemicals. You may use tomato juice after washing your dog with water and shampoo. Let the tomato juice sit on its skin for 10-20 minutes and wash it off. You may use a feminine hygiene product to remove the odor. To avoid getting skunked again in future, you may set up solar lights or simple bulbs to reduce the possibility of skunks in your yard.

When the victim is the car:
If your car gets sprayed by a skunk, then your car rides are destroyed for a good long time. But there is always a solution to every problem, and we have got you covered. Start by using a garden hose and washing powder to remove the spray from the car's body. Then go for applying chemicals to the car's body, inside car, dashboard, mats, and carpet. When it comes to inside the car's smell remedy, the first step is to leave the car's doors open. It will help remove the strong smell leave as early as possible. Make use of hydrogen peroxide solution and dashboard cleaner to remove the smell. 

When the victim is human and house:
When it comes to cleaning clothes, mix a solution of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and detergent in a bucket and soak the clothes in it for some time. When you are about to wash the clothes, then wear rubber gloves and then rub the clothes like your grandma used to do. Then complete the washing cycles 3-4 times. The smell will go away.
